If your summer is not complete without the magic of a balmy night under the stars, or dancing on the beach or at nightclubs, then the Beach Rugby Festival at Bibione will satisfy your cravings for great fun in the sun and after the sun goes down.
It’ll be held at Bibione (in the province of Venice) on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th July on the new beach arena in front of the Villaggio Turistico Internazionale (International Tourist Village in the thermal spa area of Bibione). The 30,000 sqm of the arena will once again play host to teams from all over Europe in a superb festival of rugby.
Participation and game schedules. The tournament is open to teams of all levels divided into categories of Men’s 5vs5 and Women’s 5vs5. Each team is allowed up to seven reserves. A player may only play for one team. The schedule of games will be decided as follows: On Saturday a series of qualifying rounds will be played, using pools of four or five teams. At the end of the qualifying rounds, each category will get a provisional classification of rankings. In the case of a draw, the team that applied to the tournament first will be given precedence. The final rounds (on Sunday) will be based on the provisional classifications, with knockout rounds to reach a grand final. All games will have two 5-minute halves, with a three-minute halftime. In the case of a draw during the finals, the system of sudden death will be employed, in an unlimited extra time the first team to score will win.
Uniforms. Team players must wear a numbered jersey and shorts.
Injuries insurance. athletes without their own insurance are advised to add 10 Euro to their participation fee. This will buy them a policy against unfortunate injuries during the event. The full names of each person requiring an insurance policy should be clearly marked on the Athletes' Form to be sent along with the Application form. Before taking out the insurance policy we recommend that you download the policy information from the site.
Health Certificate. All athletes must have a current certificate declaring them to be fit and in good for sporting activities; this certificate must be presented at check-in. A doctor may be made available for health exams and for issuing certificates at the standard fee.
Athlete registration form. To participate in the Beach Rugby Festival, teams must fill in the athlete registration form (available at www.beachrugby.com in the ‘Registration Forms 2010’ section). The form must be filled in by each team, as well as printed, signed and then handed in at check-in along with health certificates. Any changes to the athlete list may be performed directly at check-in. A parent or guardian of the participating minor must sign the registration form, which allows the minor to participate in the sports event as an athlete. Note: teams will not be validly registered if the registration forms are improperly or incompletely filled in.
Armband. At check-in the team manager will receive for each properly enrolled player, team vests and coloured armbands that must be worn during the matches (a free identifying Armband of a different colour will be given to those looking after the team). Athletes must write the name of their team and their category on their Armband. The Armband must be worn on the wrist or ankle for the entire duration of the event. Free entrance into the international tourist resort where a locker room with hot showers, large pools with slides and water-jets, a café, restaurant and much more will be available free of charge to those with the Armband. Armband holders also gain free entrance to parties at clubs, discounted prices at spas, discounts at pizzerias and other sponsored businesses. A new bracelet can be requested in case of breakage or loss from the organizing secretariat: the new bracelet will be delivered free of charge if the old one is returned. Note: Competing teams with one or more athletes without the coloured Armband will be declared losers with a score of 0 - 3.
Prizes: The top three teams in each category will be awarded sporting goods and other products associated with the sponsors.
Registration and payments. Individual membership fees and team registration fees must be paid in order to take part in the Beach Rugby Festival. Registrations shall be completed no later than Tuesday 29 June by faxing the application form (available from the www.beachrugby.com website in the ‘Registration Forms’ section) and of the receipt of payment.To help the administration, please do not let more than three days elapse from the date of the bank transfer to sending the fax. The team manager will receive confirmation of registration via email within seven working days of receipt of the application form. If the confirmation has not arrived within seven days of having sent the form, the team manager is kindly asked to contact the organizers.
Note: the membership fees (2.00 euro per athlete) shall be paid at check-in; the registration fees and any injury insurance shall be paid, with a single bank transfer, together with hotel accommodation charges, while holiday camp and camping site accommodations shall be paid at check-in.
Surcharges. Registration fees, as mentioned-above, shall rise by 20.00 euro should registration occur after 22 June.
Withdrawals. No reimbursement shall be paid in the case of withdrawal communicated to the organizers within fifteen days of the start of the event and the entire payment of membership fees and/or any accommodation requested on the registration form shall be in any case due at check-in.
Requirements of participation. In order to participate in the Beach Rugby Festival entrants must have made the required payments and faxed (within three days of the date of the bank transfer) the registration form and receipt of payment of the bank transfer. It is also requested at check-in to have paid the membership fees and to have handed in a signed athletes registration form along with health certificates for all members of the team. Athletes’ registration form must be faxed
together with the participation form if the injuries insurance is requested.
Check-in. Check-in will be held at the “Centro Tennistico Comunale di Bibione” (Via Cellina, 2) on Thursday and Friday from 11.00 a.m. until 11.00 p.m. (until 8.00 p.m. for the teams arranging their own accommodation), and Saturday from 8.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m.. Each team manager will need to check-in when they first get to Bibione, where they’ll get personnel passes, a program of events and information about accommodation and evening activities. At check-in the team manager shall hand in the athlete registration form along with the health certificates for all members of the team and shall pay the Membership fee of 2.00 euro per athlete and facultative accommodation (Holiday Camp and Campsite accommodation).
The Armband given at check-in must be worn on the wrist for the duration of the event and allows each bearer free entry into the “Villaggio Turistico Internazionale” (a four-star resort complex on the beachfront) where they’ll be able to use and enjoy the changing rooms with warm showers, swimming pools with waterslides and hydromassage jets, a cafe and snack bar, and beach umbrellas and chairs. The personnel pass also allows free entry into the disco party, and discounts for the thermal spas (Bibione is famous for its thermal baths) and selected bars and pizzerias.
Accommodation. Teams and their support staff (managers, spouses, friends) will have access to convention rate discounted accommodation in the best hotels, and camp grounds that the local tourist council has recommended (see the application form).
Hotel accommodation (for a minimum of two nights)
2 star hotel: 42.00 euro per person/night (bed and breakfast)
3 star hotel: 50.00 euro per person/night (bed and breakfast)
4 star hotel: 60.00 euro per person/night (bed and breakfast)
Note: single supplement: 20.00 euro per person/night, 30% reduction for children up to 6 years old in a room with two adults.
Holiday camp accommodation (for a minimum of two nights)
Rooms with 2-5 beds plus bathroom: 25 euro per person/night (excluding breakfast)
6-8 bed dormitories with no en suite bathroom: 22 euro per person/night (no breakfast)
Campsite accommodation
Tent and/or camper van areas: 16.00 euro per person/night. 30% reduction for children up to 6 years old
Bibione. Just an hour by car from Venice, Bibione is a modern seaside resort with excellent facilities, levels of service and comfort. The fine sandy beach extends for over seven kilometres; the water is clean and the spa offers a modern wellness centre with big thermal swimming pools for adults and children. Bibione is a calm, relaxing place, a youthful environment, with amusement park, discos, bars and restaurants and shops that are easily accessible by foot. It is a holiday destination well-known throughout Europe and is one that respects nature, protecting its lagoon environment; an ideal place to organize visits to Venice and other nearby cities of historical interest, or to go on nature trips. The motorway and railway network, as well as the nearby airports of Venice, Treviso, and Ronchi dei Legionari, ensure efficient connections with the resort.
Bibione Thermae.
The spa centre in Bibione is the ideal place to go to feel well. Anyone who doesn’t just want to play sport will be able to enjoy thermal swimming pools with Jacuzzis and water games, an advanced beauty parlour, saunas, Turkish baths, solarium and café services. Bibione Thermae is one hundred metres far from beach rugby courts. Athletes and the people with them enjoy a 20% discount on the entry price to the thermal swimming pools.
Directions. By car: A4 motorway (VE-TS): take the Latisana exit. A 20 km clearway connects Latisana to Bibione. By Train: Latisana railway station (VE-TS line). Scheduled bus services run every hour to Bibione, with a journey time of about 20 minutes. By plane: Venice, Treviso and Ronchi dei Legionari airports provide a bus connection to the holiday resort.
News. SPORTSTOURS, the official tour operator, will provide a coach service on request from and to Bibione from the major Italian cities, and a transfer service on request from Mestre-Venice railway station to the holiday resort. This tour operator also offers packages with low cost flights (to Treviso and Venice airports) and transfers to the holiday resort. Bookings are best made at least 30 days before the starting date for the event.

Sporting activities
- Saturday: from 9.00 a.m. through to 7.00 p.m.
- Sunday: from 8.30 a.m. through to 6.00 p.m. (the finals starting from 3.30 p.m.)
Evening events
- Third half / Party on the Beach (Saturday) starting from 7.00 p.m.
- Disco (Friday and Saturday) starting from 11.30 p.m.
Adverse Weather Conditions. It is at the discretion of the organizers to make any final changes to the match schedule in the event of adverse weather conditions (or other external events) that cause substantial delays to the competition schedule and, in more serious cases, the organizers may call off the event without any obligation to reimburse the registration fees and/or expense for the stay.
